Time for another chat on our journey to becoming the best versions of ourselves. This week, we're talking about an aspect of training that can be quite a balancing act - training vs. recovery. It's a delicate dance, a bit like a well-executed clean and jerk, and just as vital for our success.

Training Volume
Training volume is the first part of our equation, and it's a tricky one. We all love that buzz of a powerful WOD, but there's a sweet spot between crushing those workouts and overdoing it. Remember, as Masters athletes, we're running a marathon, not a sprint. Our training volume should be consistent and sustainable. It’s not about cramming in more sessions but about making every workout count.
Quality over quantity, my friends!
(I can’t wait to share the training program I’m building for Masters Athletes with you! It’s coming very soon!!!)
Recovery
Now, let's chat about recovery vs. rest. Yes, they're different! Rest is a part of recovery, but recovery encompasses so much more. It's about nourishing our bodies with the right nutrients, getting adequate sleep, and even using techniques like meditation, breath work, and mindfulness to give our minds a break. And hey, don't forget your Thirdzy's Nighttime Recovery or your Black Label Supplements' Whey Protein (from last week’s newsletter)
But we're not done with recovery yet. Did you know you can recover...actively? That's right, active recovery! This isn't an excuse to sneak in another WOD, though. Think low-impact activities that get the blood flowing without adding stress, like a leisurely bike ride, a walk with the dog, or some light mobility work. These activities can actually help reduce muscle soreness and speed up your recovery process.
The balancing act between training and recovery is a crucial part of our fitness journey. Remember, every piece is important, from the intensity of our workouts to the quality of our rest and recovery periods. It's not always easy to get it right, but with consistency, we'll find that sweet spot.
That's it for this week, Masters! As always, keep crushing your goals, listen to your bodies, and don't forget to enjoy the journey. You're doing an incredible job, and I'm proud to be on this journey with you!
