You've probably heard the saying "Age is just a number," right? Well, when it comes to warming up for our daily WODs, that number does deserve a bit more of our attention. This week, we're going to jump into the world of warm-ups, and more specifically, how they may look a little different for us ‘seasoned’ CrossFit athletes compared to our younger counterparts. Ready to break a mild sweat? Let's get into it!

Remember when we could roll out of bed, throw on our workout gear, and jump right into a WOD with hardly a warm-up? For some, those were the days! For me… I started my journey at 38, so I never had this luxury!!

As masters athletes, we likely find that our bodies need a bit more coaxing to get into gear. But, that's nothing to be frustrated about. It's simply an opportunity for us to be more mindful, more in tune with our bodies, and honestly, more efficient with our training.

Here's an example. Let's say the WOD features heavy deadlifts. Our younger buddies might get away with a few leg swings, a minute on the rower, and a couple of light deadlifts before tackling their working sets. As Masters athletes, our warm-up might be a tad more extensive: some dynamic stretches, a longer cardio warm-up to really get our blood pumping, targeted mobility work for our hips and lower back, and gradually increasing the weight for our deadlifts.

The bottom line, my friends, is that a well-planned and executed warm-up is essential, especially for us Masters athletes. Listen to your body, take your time warming up, and remember, it's about quality, not quantity. So, next time you're in the box, give your warm-up the attention it deserves.

Stay warm and keep crushing it, Masters!
