With the Age Group Quarterfinals for Masters Athletes just around the corner, I want to help you prepare and perform your best. Whether you're a seasoned competitor or a first-time participant, I have some tips to help you navigate this exciting event. From training strategies to mental preparation, I’ll cover all the essentials so that you can feel confident and ready to tackle the challenges ahead. Let's dive in!
✅ Recommendation of the Week: King Kong Bags
I will have a full review coming soon to YouTube… I’m the kind of athlete that carries a lot of gear. Grips, shoes, foam rollers, jump ropes, wrist bands, crossover symmetry (hip and shoulders), mobility bands, extra clothes, etc. I used to carry two bags everywhere... Until King Kong sent me their Plus63 Giant Kong Bag.
It’s insanely well built, large, and holds everything. Based on my very positive experience with this one bag, I feel confident in recommending anything this company creates!

🏋️ 5 tips to help you prepare for the Age Group Quarterfinals.
Focus on your strengths: During the Quarterfinals, you'll be facing a variety of workouts that test different aspects of fitness. Let your strengths shine!! If you have the engine of a champion - run with it. If you can lift heavy, enjoy that - I’m sure you’ll have an opportunity. It’s too late to shore up weaknesses. So… let your strengths fuel your performance (this year). And as you discover weaknesses, you can improve those during the off season.
Stick to your game: Each workout in the Age Group Quarterfinals is designed to test your fitness in different ways, and it's important to have a strategy for each one. Make sure to develop a game plan for each workout, based on your strengths, weaknesses, and the specific requirements of the workout. Once you have a plan, stick to it and avoid getting distracted by what other athletes are doing (or what you think the other virtual athletes are doing). Remember, the goal is to perform your best, not to compare yourself to others. Trust your training and your plan, and stay in your lane to achieve the best possible results.
Use visualization techniques to prepare mentally: Visualization can be a powerful tool for preparing yourself mentally for the Age Group Quarterfinals. Spend time visualizing yourself successfully completing the workouts and achieving your goals. Visualize yourself staying focused and calm under pressure, and imagine yourself pushing through any obstacles that may arise. You can also use visualization to familiarize yourself with the competition environment and equipment, which can help you feel more confident and prepared on the day of the event. By incorporating visualization into your training routine, you can help yourself feel more confident and mentally prepared for the challenges ahead.
Get enough rest and recovery: In the days leading up to the Quarterfinals, make sure to prioritize rest and recovery. This includes getting enough sleep, taking rest days as needed, and practicing active recovery techniques like mobilization or foam rolling.
Stay hydrated and fueled: Proper nutrition and hydration are essential for optimal performance during the Quarterfinals. Make sure to fuel your body with the right foods and stay hydrated throughout the competition weekend.
